10 ideas NDC has accused Bawumia of stealing from John Mahama

FUSEINI SAFIANU

The opposition NDC has taken on the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for what they described as “dishonest repeatition of ideas” by the veep from his opponent leading the NDC into the next elections, John Drammani Mahama.

In a statement chanced on by the NDC’s Deputy Director for Special Duties, Brogya Gemfi, he listed ten (10) policy ideas the former president, John Mahama has already promised the people of Ghana, which the NPP flagbearer has repeated to score political goals.

Below is the list of the ideas:

TEN [10] POLICY PROPOSALS OF JOHN MAHAMA THAT… Alhaji Bawumia dishonestly repeated as his idea

1. Abolish e-levy and betting tax

On May 4, 2022, President Mahama said, “A new National Democratic Congress Government, God willing and with the votes of the sovereign people of Ghana – in 2025 — will repeal the E-Levy Act.”

And on February 7, when Dr. Bawumia was presenting his vision to Ghanaians, he also said, “To move towards a cashless economy, however, we have to encourage the population to use electronic channels of payment. To accomplish this, there will be no taxes on digital payments under my administration. The e-levy will, therefore, be abolished.”

2. Abolish VAT on electricity

“Implementing VAT on electricity consumption will increase tariffs by almost 21% and exacerbate the hardship on Ghanaians. This will affect the prices of goods, services, and transport fares. I agree with organized labor that the government must reverse its decision to start collecting VAT on electricity consumption,” Mahama said on January 24.

“With the policy measures implemented thus far, we have outperformed the IMF fiscal deficit target of 5% of GDP by attaining a fiscal deficit of 4.2% in 2023. The new policies that I am proposing to implement in 2025 will give us the fiscal space to eliminate some taxes such as the VAT on electricity, the emissions tax and the betting tax without compromising our deficit target”, Bawumia said on February 7 this year.

3. Abolish emissions tax

“If you look at the government and their approach to that levy, everything points to the fact that they are simply clueless about solving the economic challenges facing the country. It is senseless, and I know when Mahama is elected in 2024 and sworn in; it will be abolished”, Edem Agbana said on Adom TV on Friday, February 2.

For Bawumia’s, refer to point to above

4. Amend 1992 constitution/constitutional review

5. Regularize and regulate small scale mining

6. Reduce number of Ministers and Deputies drastically

7. Cancel ex-gratia

8. National Development Plan for Ghana

9. Create Industrial Zones

10. Train one [1] million youth in coding
