Walewale Constituency is currently occupied by the gender minister, Hajia Lariba Abudu whose political growth is tied to her relationship with the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

It is not clear how she is related to the veep, but sources say she was groomed by  Dr. Bawumia’s late mother, and it was due to this she was appointed to serve as NDA deputy CEO in the first term of Akufo-Addo led government.

Hajia became a minister when she succeeded in winning the Walewale seat for the NPP in 2020 general elections and was subsequently appointed as minister to gender and social protection.

She has since declared her intention to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the party again on January 27 next year.

“I returned my form yesterday at the party office. I want to use this opportunity to thank all polling station executives, Coordinators, Constituency party executives and the people of walewale who joined me yesterday to file my nomination”, she wrote.

“Together we will retain the Walewale seat for the Npp and  break the 8 with H.E Alhaji mahamudu Bawumia. It Is Possible. Hajia Round 2”, she added.

Meanwhile, technical advisor at the office of the vice president, who happens to be one of the darling boys of the veep, Dr. Kabiru Mahama Tia has also filed to contest for the primaries.

Out sources reveal again that Dr. K. B. has contested the Walewale NPP parliamentary primaries before and is coming back because he believes the seat is not safe.

“Earlier yesterday team KB Mahama successfully filed and submitted our nomination form to contest the impending NPP parliamentary primaries in the Walewale Constituency which is slated to come off on January  27th,  2024”, his supporters wrote on Facebook.

“Alhaji Dr. Mahama Tia Abdul-Kabiru is the best candidate to lead the NPP into the 2024 polls because he is humble,  courageous, erudite,  competent, and above all,  a unifier”, they added.
