Nana Akomea, the Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prioritize unity as the party approaches its parliamentary primaries scheduled for Saturday.

Expressing concern over the perceived decline in the party’s popularity, Nana Akomea cautioned against internal divisions that could further erode the NPP’s chances in the general election.

During a panel discussion on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ morning show, he stated, “So far, 17 people have been disqualified – I pray that there was a basis for their disqualification to avoid division and someone going independent.”

“It will be problematic if someone goes independent, especially now that the NPP is not popular. We need unity, close all ranks, and avoid divisions,” he pleaded.

The NPP held its parliamentary primaries on Saturday, January 27, 2024, to select candidates in constituencies where the party currently has sitting Members of Parliament.

A total of 326 individuals were vying for a spot.

The disqualification of 17 individuals had raised concerns about potential internal crack in the party.

Nana Akomea’s appeal for unity comes in the wake of the disqualifications, as he stressed the importance of avoiding scenarios where disgruntled members may choose to run as independent candidates.

The CEO of the State Transport Corporation urged party delegates to rally together, put aside differences, and work towards a common goal.
