The Northern Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mohammed Bantima Samba has said that he wished all the nine (9) Members of Parliament (MPs) for the party were not contested in the coming parliamentary primaries.

Chairman Samba made these comments when he appeared on Tamale based majority radio last night, October 22, where he addressed issues Mr. Kennedy Agyapong raised regarding the party in ghe the region.

“I have never witnessed a politician helping his people in terms of employment like Habib is doing for the people of Tolon. Just like Farouk is doing for Yendi people. I don’t think there is a first time MP like them. So I wish they were not contested in the upcoming parliamentary primaries”, Chairman Samba said.

“Not only the 2 of them. All the nine (9) MPs of the party in the Northern Region. They are doing well. Though this is my suggestion. Because our party’s constitution does not allow that. We believe in contest. And I think for the sake of unity, they should be allowed to go. So we focus on the orphan constituencies”, he added.

The NPP regional chairman believed he has succeeded in making the northern region the party’s stronghold, because the party now has more seats if the the three (3) regions combined together as it was in the 2016 elections.

According to him, with the support of the Deputy Majority Chief Whip in parliament, who doubles as the MP for Tolon Constituency, he chairman Samba will maintain the 9 seats and win more to increase the party’s seats in parliament, come 2024.

The incumbent NPP MPs in the Northern Region are; Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama for Yendi Constituency, Alhaji Habib Iddris for Tolon Constituency, Aziz Ayaba for Mion Constituency, Haruna Dominic Nitiwul for Binbila Constituency.

The rest are ; Lawyer Hassan Tampuli for Gushegu Constituency, Dr. Adam Mohammed Amin Anta for Karaga constituency, Hardi Tuferu for Nanton Constituency, John Jabah for Zabzugu Constituency.
