Tamale South NPP primaries : You can’t speak English – Baba Alhassan fires Fuzzy

As the battle to select Parliamentary Candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party NPP in the Tamale South Constituency gets tense, some of the aspirants have begun to wonder what language their opponents will speak, if they eventually become a Member of Parliament for the area.

Though some say English language is not a criteria in selection of MPs, yet it is used as lingua franca in the house of parliament of two hundred and seventy five (275) legislators.

In a newspaper review segment today on radio Tamale’s Ashahara Nye Dini today’s Monday, October 30, one of the leading contenders, Alhaji Baba Alhassan said the job to represent the Tamale South constituents is not an easy task.

According to him, one of his opponents, Alhaji Fuseini Musah is unlettered, and can’t even spell his name, let alone communicate with people in English, when  elected to be an MP.

“Parliament house is not for jokes ooo. If you are elected to be an MP, what language are going to speak? Dagbani?”, Alhaji Baba Alhassan asked.

When asked if he was referring to Mohammed Soawi, another aspirant, he said, “No. Mohammed Soawi is a professional teacher.”

And when the host pushed further, to know if he was referring to the other candidate, Hon. Baba Foshagu, the angry Baba Alhassan still said it wasn’t him too.

This was the time everyone knew Alhaji Fuzzy was the target, when he was told that it Fuzzy because he died he was referring to the two (2) opponents mentioned earlier, he answered, “Yes. Can he speak English?”
