Entire Gonja Kingdom is behind you as a son, don’t let us down – Yogbunwura to John

The king of Gonja Kingdom, Tagbonwura Biikunuto Jewu Soale I has reminded the the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC , John Drammani Mahama that the expectations on him by the people of Gonja traditional area is huge, and that he should not disappoint them, when elected as president of Ghana in December this year.

The king told president Mahama this, when the latter paid a courtesy call on the former at the Jakpa palace on Sunday, February 25.

“The entire Gonja Kingdom is behind you as a son. Therefore, do not let us down when given the nod. Leave behind a generational legacy that as a people, we would always be proud of. Our ancestors are with you; the Great Ndewura Jakpa’s warrior’s spirit is with you, as you go round across the length and breadth of the country to seek the people’s mandate again.
We wish you the very best in your campaign”, Tagbonwura told the NDC flagbearer.

Tagbonwura Biikunuto Jewu also used the opportunity to advise the former president to to be ready to sacrifice in the interest of the country to inspire Ghanaians to follow suit.

“Finally, Your Excellency, when the time comes and the good people of Ghana elect you into office, you and your party must be prepared to make sacrifices in the interest of the country. That is the only way the people of Ghana will follow you and also make the needed sacrifices for the good of the nation”, former president Mahama told.

“We have heard about your plans to introduce a 24-hour economy policy which if successful may contribute to addressing the problems of under-development, poverty and unemployment, that I outlined earlier. We however need further explanation from you and your team. If Ghana succeeds, it succeeds for everyone and not just the people of a particular party. This is what we want for this country”, the king added.

The overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area however urged the electoral commission to ensure fairness in the upcoming elections, adding that the police service act professionally and proactively to prevent any electoral violence.
